The Jaguar D-Type poster from the Design Poster collection showcases one of British's most beautiful race cars. D-Type is a sports racing car produced by Jaguar Cars Ltd. between 1954 and 1957. Although it shares the basic straight-6 XK engine and many of its mechanical components with the C-Type, its aviation industry influenced structure was radically different. Innovative monocoque construction and an aeronautical approach to aerodynamic efficiency brought aviation technology to competition car design.

This winning car covered 4397 Km in Le Mans, an average speed of 183kmh, a record which remained unbroken for four years. The victorious Ron Flockhart/Ivor Bueb Ecurie Ecosse entered 'D Type' Jag during the 1957 Le Mans 24 Hours, it was the third and last win for the fabulous car which reigned supreme at la Sarthe from 1955-1957.
